Pelvic Floor Assessment

Internal vaginal Pelvic floor examination

One of the most comprehensive ways to thoroughly check your pelvic floor is by completing an internal digital vaginal examination. This might seem a scary & embarrassing prospect, but this assessment can provide your Women’s & Pelvic Health Physiotherapist with crucial information when it comes to the function of your pelvic floor. A pelvic floor muscle assessment is not like getting a pap smear. Patient comfort is so important to us, the assessment is very gentle and should not be painful.

Real time ultrasound:

Abdominal or perineal ultrasound can be completed as an alternative option to assess the pelvic floor using a real time ultrasound machine. This assessment can provide information about your pelvic floor muscles activation & relaxation. Transperineal ultrasound can also provide essential information about the position of your bladder and bladder neck in lying and standing positions. This can be particularly important if you are experiencing vaginal heaviness or stress urinary incontinence.
