Persistant Pelvic Pain


 

◗ Persistent Pelvic Pain occurs in 15%-20% females aged18-50

Persistent Pelvic Pain (PPP) is a condition where persistent or recurrent episodes of pain is experienced in structures related to the pelvis. The pain must have been present for more that 6 months duration & is in the absence of any infection or other obvious local pathology.

A multi-disciplinary patient centred approach is extremely important in the management of PPP.

 

Conditions:

  • Endometriosis

  • Bladder Pain Syndrome (BPS)

  • Interstitial Cystitis (IC)

  • Prostate pain syndrome

  • Pelvic floor muscle pain

  • Vulvodynia

  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

  • Pudendal neuralgia

  • Dysmenorrhea (Cramps and pain with menstruation)

Management:

  • Pelvic floor muscle training

  • Lifestyle modifications

  • Education around safe activities + exercise

  • Bowel & Bladder care

  • Topical Oestrogen

  • Vaginal support pessaries
